Our Mission

After over a decade of working for various tuition agencies in London, our founder wanted to forge a new path for fellow professional private tutors and the families they work with.

Open Book Education was created in response to the frustrations she encountered, both as a private tutor and as client manager for tutoring agencies. Instead of yet another agency with overheads and the steep pricing margins that go with them, Open Book Education is a stripped-back collective of like-minded career tutors who are better placed to meet the needs of the families they work with.

We don't have fancy offices

We are defined by the quality of our tutors, not the location of our office.  We bill for the tuition we provide, not office space in a posh postcode.

Our Founder

Brittany Sigurdsson got her start in private tuition as a high school student in Southern California, and joined a small, US-focused tutoring agency after she moved to London in 2007. Brittany eventually took over as Managing Director and Head Tutor, and has managed hundreds of private tuition arrangements in addition to overseeing the daily operations of a tutoring company. She has a wealth of experience helping parents and students with their US-bound journeys.

As a test prep tutor both in the US and UK, Brittany has helped hundreds of students prepare for US standardized tests in both private and group settings. In addition to the SAT and ACT, Brittany has taught a wide range of subjects in both the humanities and STEM. This experience has also afforded her a high level of familiarity with UK secondary school curricula and many of the boarding and day schools in London and further afield.
